The stranger's secret

I was wondering through Powell's bookstore.. the photography section of course.
You just can't drag me out of there.

Anywho, I'm flipping through a book I'm about to purchase and here falls out a postcard with this photograph and words saying,
"I'm shy, like a bear hiding behind a tree"

I flip the photo to the other side where it is formed into a postcard. The address and a stamp already in place. The left side says "Whomever finds this secret: Please tell me what you think about my secret. And then mail it back to me. This is for a photo project. Thank you very much"
At the bottom there is a blank every for my response.
Isn't this a genius idea?! I hope to someday do something creative like this.

I've been thinking for the past couple days what my response would be. I was shooting for something...cleaver, something brilliant to say...Nothing. You see, I'm not good with words.
This is a bear...hiding behind a tree because he is shy. Yet he(she?) is so big that nothing is being hidden, he is bigger and more powerful than the rest anyway and quite a beautiful creature. So why must this bear even attempt to hide and from what?
WHY IS THIS BEAR HIDING IN THE FIRST PLACE AND FROM WHAT?! Come out and show us what your made of, everyone already can see who you are anyway!
Which lead me to my un-creative, un-brilliant, simple response..
"There's nothing to hide from."

This will run through my mind forever.

What do you think of the strangers secret?

  1. I think in the simplicity of your response, it truly is creative, brilliant, and beautiful.
I think the post car is an interesting and neat way to share your gifts, not to mention humble which makes it all the more beautiful.

  2. 'There's nothing you can see that can't be shown, nothing you can know that can't be known...' Your response was perfect...
